Developer Infinity Ward and publisher Activision have announced the next Call of Duty game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, via a reveal trailer on May 30.

As rumors have been suggesting, the game will be a reboot of the 2007 hit of the same title -- Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare -- not a sequel or remaster (that already came out in 2016).

Infinity Ward studio head Dave Stohl said that Call of Duty will be moving away from the futuristic settings of the several most recent games (aside from World War II), and get back to the basics of the franchise.

"This is a military sim," Stohl said in an interview with IGN. "It's more about that kind of authentic experience."

Check out the trailer below:

I have been predicting that the franchise would take the "back-to-the-basics" turn soon, and I have to say I'm sad to see the futuristic settings and tech go. Not only would I consider myself a futurist in general, but I thoroughly enjoyed the combat that the jetpacks and exo suits provided.

That being said, I loved CoD4. That game was the peak of my online gameplaying days because all of my friends and I had Xbox 360s and we would play pretty much everyday after school.

I also really like the campaign in CoD4, especially the standout mission, All Ghillied Up, which saw the player sneaking around and sniping enemies.

I doubt the Modern Warfare reboot will bring me back together with my middle school friend group, but I do have faith that IW will be able to double-down on all of the elements that made CoD4 such a remarkable game.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be available on Oct. 25.
